Our story

Energy Forge Works started with a simple observation: utilities still have problems the big vendors have walked away from, and smaller utilities need help sized to them. After more than four decades in the electric utility business, on both the utility and the manufacturer side, our founder set out to fill both gaps.

Today the company brings together people who have worked at every level of the grid, from board-level meter design to cooperative distribution systems to large-scale load flow studies.

Utility solutions, by utility people.

Meet the founder

R. Bryan Seal, PE, Retired

Bryan has spent more than four decades in the electric power industry, first on the utility side and then on the product side. In 23 years with The Southern Company, he was an early leader in AMI development. At SmartSynch, he led the team that created North America's first cellular-communicating residential AMI meter. At Itron, he helped build its first cloud-based AMI offering and shaped its AMI approach for the public power market. Today at Wasion Americas, his work includes distribution transformer specifications.

He holds six patents in utility telecommunications and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University. A frequent presenter at utility meter schools and industry events, he speaks on everything from metering fundamentals to using AI to find anomalies in meter data.

Bryan and his wife of 47 years, Marjie, live on 20 acres in Mississippi. They have three children, including two sons who are Mississippi State electrical engineering graduates and part of Energy Forge Works, and nine grandchildren. They're active in their church and community.
